  • Licensure/Accreditation

Licensure is separate from the requirements for registration by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and the process varies by state. Medical nutrition therapy cannot be practiced in WV without a license. An intern who has completed the supervised practice requirements, but has not yet passed the registration exam must apply for a provisional license in West Virginia. A provisional license in West Virginia will be changed to a regular license after successful completion of the registration exam.

Interns who will practice dietetics outside of West Virginia should investigate the requirements of the state in which they plan to practice.

Accreditation Status

The West Virginia University Graduate Dietetic Internship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, (312) 889-0040 (phone).

Upon completion of the GDI program requirements, the program director will issue the student a verification statement, making the student then eligible to take the registration examination for dietitians. Registration eligibility requirements can be found through the following link to the CDR website.
